Plant-based veterinary practices in Jammu and Kashmir: A review of the trends, transfer and conservation of traditional ethnoveterinary knowledge

Background: Traditional veterinary phytotherapy refers to the use of plants for promoting health and curing diseases livestock. Animal rearing is major occupation tribal communities in Jammu Kashmir thus an important part their economy. Due inaccessibility modern facilities allopathic drugs, these mainly rely on local flora cure common ailments prevalent livestock, developing a rich knowledge ethnoveterinary practices. These practices are still despite advent drugs as they easily accessible, effective, economic. To date, plethora studies have been carried out different regions India, however few available itself. The aim this review was collate analyze traditional phyto-remedies against livestock Kashmir. Methods: An extensive published literature using various online databases like Academia, Google Scholar, PubMed, Researchgate, Sci-Finder, Scopus, Science direct, other allied literature. Results: A total 18 research articles from year 1989-2021 were selected which exclusively related importance plants.
